Sizing

Vintage clothing sizes can be... complicated. Age, origin, and style all factor into the size on the tag and (more importantly) the "actual" size as it fits.

After much research, trial and error, and actually trying these things on, we've put together a sizing guide to help you find your fit.

With that said, these aren't really rules...

Captain Barbossa meme They're more what you'd call guidelines

So, here are those guidelines:

Basic Shirt/Top Sizes
Sizing Guide - Tops
Shirts will typically be listed as tagged unless measurements are significantly off, in which case we will label sizing in accordance with the above listed chart. Photos of all measurements will be included, as well as listed in the product description.

Pants
Sizing Guide - Pants
Pants listings will also include waist to crotch measurements (from top of waist to center stitch of crotch). Photos of all measurements will be included, as well as listed in the product description.

Shorts & Skirts
Shorts and skirts will have size labeled in accordance with waist and hip width portion of the pants sizing chart. Measurements of outer edge length from top of waist to bottom hem will be included, as well as waist to crotch measurements for shorts. Photos of all measurements will be included, as well as listed in the product description.

Dresses
Dresses will typically be listed as tagged unless stated sizing is confusing or measurements are significantly off, in which case sizing will be labeled in accordance with the shirt sizing chart. Waist measurements will also be included, as well as length measurements from shoulder to bottom hem. Photos of all measurements will be included, as well as listed in the product description.

Overalls/Coveralls
Overalls and coveralls will typically be listed as tagged unless stated sizing is confusing or measurements are significantly off, in which case sizing will be labeled as a best approximation in accordance with both the shirt sizing chart and the pants sizing chart. Pit to pit width (when appropriate), waist width, hip width, waist to crotch length, inseam measurements, and outer edge length from waist to bottom hem (when appropriate) will be included. Photos of all measurements will be included, as well as listed in the product description.

Things we will always do:
- Photograph all measurements appropriate for each clothing type
- List all measurements in the product description
- List the size on the tag, if visible/available, in the product description

So by all means, use the sizing categories as a guide, but MAKE SURE to check the measurements listed and photographed (because sometimes we have to make judgment calls), and DEFINITELY reach out to us at oldvinedetroit@gmail.com if you'd like more information on a particular item. We are happy to provide additional photos and measurements upon request.
